What Is a Bail Bond?

When someone is arrested in Austin or Travis County, a judge sets a bail amount — the money required to secure their release from jail while they await trial. A bail bond is a financial guarantee posted with the court that the defendant will appear at all required court dates.

Most families cannot afford to pay the full bail amount out of pocket. That's where Bail Bonds Express comes in. As a licensed Travis County Bail Bond Board Representative since 2008, we post the full bail on your behalf for a fraction of the total cost.

We are conveniently located near the Travis County jail at 600 W. 28th St., Suite 106-B, Austin, Texas 78705. We can post bail over the phone, via email, or fax — so you don't have to come to our office to get your loved one released.

Types of Bail Bonds We Handle

Surety Bonds

The most common type of bail bond. A bail bondsman posts the full bail amount with the court on your behalf. You pay a non-refundable premium (typically 10% of the bail amount). If the defendant fails to appear, the bondsman is responsible for the full bail.

Cash Bonds

The full bail amount is paid directly to the court in cash. Once the case is resolved and all court appearances are made, the cash is returned minus any court fees. We can help guide you through this process.

Personal Recognizance (PR) Bonds

The defendant is released on their own promise to appear in court without paying bail. This is typically granted by a judge for low-risk defendants with strong community ties.

Property Bonds

Real property (such as a home) is used as collateral instead of cash. The property must have equity equal to or greater than the bail amount. This process takes longer due to property appraisal requirements.
